How Google Cloud Partners Can Earn Certifications at No Cost
An updated guide to Partner Certification Kickstart, including who is eligible, what the programme provides, and how to prepare responsibly.
Google Cloud certifications can validate practical knowledge, provide structure for learning, and help professionals communicate their experience. The exam fee, however, can be a meaningful barrier.
When I first wrote this guide in 2023, I focused on Partner Certification Kickstart (PCK), a programme that can provide eligible Google Cloud partner employees with training and an exam voucher. The programme still exists, but the important qualification deserves to be explicit:
Google Cloud certification is not universally free. The no-cost route is available to eligible partner employees, and voucher eligibility depends on the organisation's status and the programme's current rules.
Always confirm the latest conditions on the official programme page before making a plan.
What Partner Certification Kickstart provides
The current Partner Certification Kickstart page describes a no-cost programme for Google Cloud partners that can include:
- a voucher covering the certification exam fee, subject to eligibility;
- access to training mentors;
- access to Google Skills for Partners; and
- reminders to help participants stay on track.
Registration requires a partner business email. Personal email addresses cannot access the partner learning platform or exam vouchers.
Check whether you are eligible
Start with your organisation rather than the exam catalogue.
- Search for your employer in the Google Cloud Partner Directory.
- Ask your learning, certification, or partner-programme contact whether your organisation participates.
- Confirm that your business email is linked to the eligible partner organisation.
- Read the current voucher rules before beginning the required activities.
Being employed by a technology company does not automatically make someone eligible. The organisation must participate in the relevant Google Cloud partner programme, and voucher availability can depend on its programme level.
Choose the certification for the work you want to do
Google Cloud currently groups certifications into foundational, associate, and professional levels. The catalogue evolves, so use the official certification directory rather than an old list copied into a study plan.
Choose based on your role and experience:
- foundational certifications cover broad cloud or generative-AI knowledge;
- associate certifications validate practical skills in operating cloud environments; and
- professional certifications assess deeper role-specific design and implementation experience.
A harder exam is not automatically a better choice. The useful certification is the one that supports the work you are doing—or deliberately preparing to do.
Follow the programme path
The exact activities and deadlines can change, but the workflow is generally:
- Register for Partner Certification Kickstart with your business email.
- Select an eligible certification path.
- Complete the assigned courses, labs, assessments, or mentor activities within the specified period.
- Satisfy the current voucher requirements.
- Use the voucher to register through the exam process linked from the official certification page.
Do not assume that registration alone guarantees a voucher. Treat the official confirmation and programme dashboard as the source of truth.
Prepare for the exam—not just the voucher
A free attempt still costs time, and a badge is most valuable when it reflects usable knowledge.
My preparation checklist is:
- Read the current exam guide. Products and objectives change.
- Map every exam domain to practical experience. Build small examples where your experience is weak.
- Use official learning paths and documentation. Google provides dedicated paths through Google Skills.
- Practise architectural trade-offs. Professional exams test judgement, not only product recall.
- Use sample questions as a format check. Do not treat question dumps as learning material.
- Book only when you can explain why an option is appropriate. Memorising service names is not enough.

What changed since the original guide
The certification catalogue, learning platforms, registration flow, and partner benefits continue to evolve. That is why this version avoids promising that every learner can get every exam for free.
The durable lesson is simpler:
If your employer is a Google Cloud partner, check the partner learning benefits before paying for training or an exam yourself.
Use the opportunity to build real capability, not merely collect a credential. A voucher can remove the financial barrier; it cannot replace hands-on experience.
